This September saw the launch of the first Durban Street Food Festival.
As a foodie and food blogger, attendance to this food fest was compulsory.
8 Morrison street was abuzz with people enjoying the great food and live entertainment.
It was great to see so many halal food stands which gave me a wider variety to choose from.
The Chilli Chocolate Chefs, Smokin Joes, Wicked Waffle, Roti and Chai, Sugarlicious and Lezettli Desserts were all in attendance with great food and desserts to offer.
A new kid on the block, For Shakes Sake, had the kids amazed with their decadent milkshakes topped with a little sparkler.
As usual, the Chilli Chocolate Chefs never fail to impress and the chicken chow mein and cheesecakes were divine.
I tried a smoothie from a new food stall called the Smooth Operator. They had the largest avocados I had ever seen and they were making the most delicious avocado smoothies. My obsession with all things avocado is evident in my cooking and I definitely couldn’t walk away without trying this. The combinations were unusual but very refreshing. I opted for the avocado and coffee smoothie which was divine. This unique combination prompted me to try my own Arabian spiced Avocado smoothie (recipe below). Other flavours available were avocado and cardamom and other fruit smoothies as well.
The turnout at the festival was amazing and at times the space felt cramped and overcrowded. Areas for dining were also limited which made it difficult with kids and toddlers. A larger venue would be preferable next year(fingers crossed).
