I was inspired to try these fritters after coming across something similar on the internet.
I had never used chickpeas in a fritter before, so I was not sure how these would turn out. I decided to add an Arabian twist to these fritters by adding some of my favourite aromatic spices.
These fritters are quick and easy to make and can be whipped up right before lunch or dinner if you have all the ingredients.

Middle Eastern spiced Chickpea Fritters
Preparation time : 30 minutes
Yield : approx. 24 fritters
Ingredients :
- 1 tin chickpeas, drained
- 1 egg
- 3 tablespoons flour
- 2 tablespoons milk
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tsp green chillies – or more if you like it spicy
- 1/2 tsp crushed cumin
- 1/2 tsp crushed coriander
- Pinch of cardamom powder
- 2 tblsp chopped coriander
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
Directions :
Mix all ingredients together until well combined. Heat vegetable oil in a pan until hot. Spoon mixture into shallow oil and spread into a flat fritter. Cook on both sides until golden. Serve immediately with spicy tomato chutney or tzatziki.
